WORD Child Development Center:

WORD Child Development Center is a licensed and accredited child care program providing comprehensive services for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers from age 4 weeks to 5 years.  The program was established as the Women’s Occupational Resources Development in 1983 and currently serves approximately 120 children at its Slade Street site.  WORD provides a total learning environment that supports personal development and enables the potential of the whole child in a nurturing, inclusive manner.  We promote self-confidence and self-respect in children through the Arts.
With a concentration on talking, reading, and playing, the child learns age-appropriately while enhancing cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development.  WORD Child Development Center is designed to challenge, exercise, and support the developing potential of young children and their families.  The program is licensed by the MA Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).
Through positive reinforcement, consistent routines, a challenging yet age-appropriate arts-enriched, comprehensive curriculum and a valued understanding of developmentally appropriate practices, WORD offers first-rate child care to our community's families.  Participating families are encouraged to visit, stay, and play!
WORD Child Development Center offers an arts-enriched curriculum featuring talking, reading and playing!  We provide a multi-sensory approach by incorporating key areas of learning as presented in the Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences developed by the Massachusetts Department of Education and The Creative Curriculum.  The foundation of our curriculum supports children through experience, interaction, and routine.  Our highly experienced team of educators “teach and play” according to weekly themes. Our typical rotation of thematic-weeks includes the arts, literacy, self-help skills, and nutrition/physical health.  We also offer field trips to local farms, libraries and live arts performances.
WORD Child Development Center is proudly accredited through the National Association for Education of Young Children.  All staff are continually trained with professional development workshops emphasizing developmentally-appropriate practices in current trends and strategies.  All staff are CPR/First Aid certified.
WORD offers income-eligible slots via the United Way of Greater Fall River and accepts private-payments as well as state-subsidized vouchers via PACE Child Care Works and RI DHS Office of Child Care.
